The Department of Home Affairs has acknowledged a cyber incident affecting Ticketmaster customers, amid claims of a data leak potentially impacting millions globally.
Industry publication CyberDaily reported that the personal details of 560 million Ticketmaster customers may have been compromised in a breach attributed to the notorious hacker group ShinyHunters. The group claims to possess 1.3 terabytes of customer data, including names, addresses, credit card numbers, phone numbers, and payment details, which they are selling for $500,000.
A Department of Home Affairs spokesperson told the ABC they are “working with Ticketmaster to understand the incident” and directed further inquiries to Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster has yet to respond to the ABC’s request for more details.
Cybersecurity expert and IT company director Mark Lukie said the hack will have significant implications for Australian customers.
