Australia’s privacy watchdog is taking legal action against Medibank Private for failing to protect the medical details of 9.7 million Australians, which were accessed by Russian cybercriminals in 2022, with potential fines exceeding $21.5 trillion. The Australian Information Commissioner, Angelene Falk, initiated the investigation after deeply personal medical details were published on the dark web.
Medibank could face a maximum fine of $21.5 trillion in a new cyber hack case.
