A scathing report by Australia’s Information Commissioner reveals that misconfigurations and missed alerts enabled a hacker to breach Medibank and steal data from over 9 million people.

In October 2022, Australian health insurance provider Medibank disclosed a cyberattack that disrupted its operations. A week later, the company confirmed that the threat actors had stolen all of its customers’ personal data and a significant amount of health claims data, resulting in a data breach affecting 9.7 million people.
