Australians have been warned of a potential serious gas shortage hitting the east coast earlier than anticipated. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) states that new sources and supplies are needed to avoid the shortfall. In its latest report released this week, the consumer watchdog predicted the shortage will be felt by 2027 instead of 2028, a year earlier than previously estimated. This change is attributed to increased consumption and a decline in supply due to issues with new gas projects and production in legacy gas fields.
