“A monumental facade”: ANZ, NAB, Commbank, and Westpac pour billions into fossil fuels despite their climate commitments.

Australia’s big four banks — ANZ, NAB, CommBank, and Westpac — have invested a combined $61 billion into fossil fuels since the Paris Agreement was signed eight years ago, according to a new report.

Despite recent changes to lending practices, the report accuses the banks of “continued greenwashing,” leaving customers “very concerned.”

Last year was the first time in the past eight years that the big four banks did not explicitly fund new or expanding fossil fuel projects.
