Scammers impersonating Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna have been thwarted thanks to a quick-thinking executive. According to Bloomberg, the executive received several text messages from an unknown number claiming to be from the company’s CEO.
“Hey, did you hear about the big acquisition we’re planning? I could need your help,” the first message read, accompanied by a press photo of Mr. Vigna as the profile picture. Another message followed, instructing, “Be ready to sign the Non-Disclosure Agreement our lawyer is set to send you asap.”
Bloomberg reports that the executive then received a phone call from the same unknown number. The caller, sounding convincingly like the CEO with his distinctive southern Italian accent, cited security concerns for calling from a different number to discuss a confidential matter involving a currency hedge.
Despite the convincing voice, the executive became suspicious and noticed minor oddities in the intonation of Mr. Vigna’s phrasing, leading to the discovery of the scam attempt.
