Woodside will produce ammonia from gas in Texas with only a third of the usual carbon emissions, marking its second major investment in the US oil and gas sector within two weeks. The Australian oil and gas giant announced on Monday that it will acquire the OCI clean ammonia plant, currently under construction, for $2.35 billion (approximately $3.7 billion). The plant will produce ammonia by combining hydrogen made from gas with nitrogen from a nearby Linde-operated facility. Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill highlighted the growing market for lower-carbon ammonia, noting its potential applications in power generation, marine fuels, and as an industrial feedstock, as it replaces more carbon-intensive fuels.
