From NDIS cost adjustments to a new employment program, here’s what the 2024 federal budget offers for disability services.

The 2024 budget papers indicate that the government expects these changes to “offset increases in NDIS payments” by $14.4 billion over the next four years. Rather than labeling this as a saving, the government refers to it as “growth moderation.”

Spending on the NDIS is now projected to rise to $60.7 billion by 2027-28, with annual growth expected to slow to 9.2 percent, thanks to the government’s measures. Last year, the government set an annual growth target of 8 percent to curb costs, down from the previous growth rate of approximately 14 percent.
