WA News LIVE: Premier calls runway buckling during a plane take-off at Perth Airport ‘extraordinary’ and responds to the incident.

The family of a bodybuilder who collapsed and spent 15 hours unconscious in a Perth gym shower is calling for a coronial inquest to investigate the circumstances of his death.

Speaking to ABC Perth’s Nadia Mitsopolous, Daniela Pirone, mother of 33-year-old Giuliano Pirone, said the family wants answers as to how he could go unnoticed for so long in a 24-hour gym after collapsing early on August 20.

Giuliano’s family grew concerned when he didn’t return home, prompting police to track his phone to the Culture Fitness 24/7 gym in Wanneroo. He had checked in at 4:55 am and wasn’t found until 10:30 pm.

The family stated that doctors believed Giuliano’s blood sugar levels had dropped, leading to low blood pressure and possibly triggering a seizure. He never regained consciousness and was placed in an induced coma for two weeks at Joondalup Health Campus before passing away on September 5.

Daniela described her son as “full of life” and someone who “always loved the gym.” She expressed her desire for answers, saying, “I just want to know how someone can be left in a gym shower for 15 hours. The neurologist said if he had been found earlier, it could have been reversed – he would have been OK.”
