China’s military and state media criticize the United States following a report on SpaceX’s spy satellites.

Chinese military and state-run media criticized the United States on Sunday, alleging that it posed a threat to global security. This comes in the wake of a Reuters report revealing that Elon Musk’s SpaceX is constructing hundreds of spy satellites for a U.S. intelligence agency.

According to Reuters, SpaceX’s Starshield unit is developing the satellite network under a classified $1.8 billion contract with the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), as stated by five sources familiar with the program.

A social media account affiliated with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) asserted that the SpaceX initiative exposed the “shamelessness and double standards” of the United States, particularly as Washington accuses Chinese tech firms of jeopardizing U.S. security.

“We urge U.S. companies to refrain from aiding a villain in doing evil,” stated Junzhengping, a PLA-affiliated account with 1.1 million followers, on the Weibo platform on Sunday. The post also called for global vigilance against potential security threats instigated by the U.S. government.

Wang Yanan, chief editor of Aerospace Knowledge, a magazine overseen by the ruling Communist Party, expressed concerns in an interview, highlighting that the SpaceX satellite project posed “a challenge to global security and stability.”
