Australian Repatriation Plane Lands in New Caledonia
A Royal Australian Air Force C-130 Hercules has landed in Noumea, New Caledonia, following clearance from the federal government for two flights to repatriate stranded citizens. The French territory has been experiencing deadly riots, resulting in at least six deaths due to controversial electoral reforms passed in Paris. Approximately 300 Australians in New Caledonia are registered with the Department of Foreign Affairs. The aircraft, which departed from Amberley Airbase near Brisbane on Tuesday, can carry 124 passengers according to the Defence Department.
